Our Co-Director Faye has a plethora of event experience in the most crazy and spectacular circumstances... From receiving laptop chargers by express *DONKEY* delivery in Morocco to organising a Gala Dinner in a Koala Sanctuary in Australia . Read on to find out more...
"2 years ago I was called in last minute, (via the wonders of LinkedIn I might add) to support a business with an overseas event. 6 weeks before the event the horrific Brussel's bombings took place and despite numbers dropping for my clients conference the event went on. I must say, being greeted with army wagons after army wagons, managing a registration desk with armed guards on the door of our venue, circulating helicopters all day and night and some quite nervous delegates and rigorous security checks, it was quite an experience, however, it went like a dream and I stayed as calm and collected throughout, hasten to add they are still one of my clients! They also gave me that incredible box of Pierre Marcolini Chocolates pictured above! That was one experience I recall in the 6 years since I started, one for the grandkids!
Others include the time where my laptop cable broke in Fez, Morocco and a man disappeared off and came back carrying a brand new one for me on the back of a donkey about 4 hours later! Or the time I arrived in Japan after 36 hours of travel and was ushered into a meditation room to get changed so I could go and set up registration, or the time where I had to evacuate a conference in France due to a bomb scare, or even the time where I ran an event at the Tower of London itself and I drank wine and shared tales with a Beefeater! (His were a lot more interesting than mine!)
And then there has been times where I have stood on a boat sailing down the Danube in Budapest and watched the sun set whilst drinking champagne, worked on events in the King of Spain's Summer Residence (a Palace on a cliff top) watched the Humpback Whales swim by our boat in Newfoundland, danced on the beach in Barcelona, had waterfights on a boat in Malta, driven go-carts in Lisbon, done cormorant fishing in Japan, eaten satay skewers on the banks of the Singapore river, ventured on the worlds fastest rollercoaster ride in Abu Dhabi and swam in the clear waters off a boat in Crete with all of my delegates!
Nearly 6 years old.....I can't believe it is nearly 6 years since I sat with a buddy and said "what a risk?! Shall I? What if.....?!" and now 6 years on I have had the most amazing journey and been to a few places to work such as........3 different parts of Japan for different events, Singapore twice, Stockholm, San-Sebastian with a few events, Morocco, also Sesimbra, the Algarve and Lisbon all in stunning Portugal, Derry/LondonDerry, Manchester, Greenwich, Brussels, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Sorrento, Rome & Terni, Venice, Bologna and Turin all in my favourite Italy, Seville, Birmingham, Poland, New Foundland/Labrador & Toronto -in magical Canada, Tenerife, beautiful Crete with 3 different events, Dublin, York, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, London, Malta, Belgrade, Budapest, Marseille and Malaga.....that is without mentioning some of the places I have explored myself!
I still pride myself on overseeing all of my events from start to end, delegating where required to a team of industry colleagues from which I draw upon various expertise, my contacts globally have not only grown but developed to a point I can call in favours from most nooks and crannies of our world as well as rely on support and advice from my international network.
I do feel fortunate to love my job as much as do, despite it being challenging, hard work, a lot of responsibility, stressful at times and cut-throat, pretty unglamorous a lot of the time and rather exhausting, as well as being a perfectionist, its tough, but it pays off for the experiences it brings, the genuine people you meet along the way, the opportunity to mix with every race, creed and culture, meeting international delegates and then keeping in touch and last but not least making my clients happy with the end result!"
